Monday Musings

I was looking at the calendar this weekend and couldn’t believe that it is almost the end of January already. I’ve been really struggling this month. January is likely my least favorite time of the year for multiple reasons.

  1. It is cold (really f’ing cold this year). Winter is the season that I put up with, and January is usually the worse – cold, dark and just no fun.
  2. The pressure. Doesn’t it feel like January is so full of pressure? I mean, we are bombarded with ads and people creating resolutions to better themselves. I’m all for trying to better yourself, but I hate trying to start in January. All I ever want to do is cuddle up on the couch and read a book.
  3. Negativity. While there is negativity all the time, it seems to hit me harder in January. While I’m far from a super upbeat person, I try not to spread my pessimism around. It constantly amazes me how nasty people can be online. If I see a post or an outfit that I don’t like, I just shake my head and move on. There is no need to be mean about it. But there are people (so many!) that think it is fun to make fun of people, especially bloggers, on places like GOMI. I will never understand why people go out of their way to make fun of people. Would you do the same with people in real life? If people do, I’m going to guess they don’t have many friends, and maybe thats why they feel the need to be nasty online.

All of these things have made blogging hard. Part of me questions why I continue to blog when it seems more like a chore than a fun hobby. I’m going to do a little soul searching on what I want to do with this little corner of my life.  I love the people that I have “met” through blogging, especially all the Blended Blog ladies. I’ve had so much fun getting to know these ladies and learning from them. But I don’t want to make blogging a part of my life that I look at with a side eye. I want to enjoy it and look at it as a creative outlet in my life. So there might be some changes happening around Puppies & Pretties. I’m just not sure what yet.

Speaking of the Blended Blog, I’m posting today on New Year, New Closet. Go check it out.

Don’t forget to be ready for Reading Lately on Friday. Hope you will join us! I’m trying to finish one more book before then, because I’m a nerd like that 🙂

And finally, I’ve got a great giveaway for you! Who doesn’t want a little extra $$$?

I totally agree with you. I have many of these same thoughts! People who post on GOMI and leave rude comments are garbage… they just are. No way around it. I hope you weren’t the recipient of the backlash. And hey, sometimes a break does the blog good. 😉 It’s a good time to remind yourself of what you love about blogging.

I’m glad I’m not the only one that thinks that. I’ve been on the receiving end of a few GOMI posts. But the only reason I knew about it was I was getting traffic from it, so I guess it is sort of a win? Maybe that is how I need to think about it 🙂

I agree with you about the moments of doubt, but was actually surprised to see you doubting your blog, I picture you confidant, and what you do always looks professional and put together. Regardless, we’re here and you know what I found super helpful when I’m in my moments of doubt- blogstorming with bloggers. Sometimes it just feels good to talk through our doubts. Google hangout sometime?

Aww, thank you Deena! Hopefully one of these days I’ll actually be able to join a BB google hangout. I swear they always end up on days that I actually have plans or else I’m being a hermit and only have plans with my couch.

I so hear ya and get ya! Look at all of us who share your feelings and thoughts. I bet the reading series will help to encourage you and re-energize your enthusiasm for blogging. XO

I’m pretty new to blogging, but thus far I’ve noticed everyone is generally respectful to others in the blogging community, which is a breath of fresh air. But for youtubers, I honestly feel bad for some of the women on there, because people can be so cruel and mean with their comments. It’s just disrespectful and unnecessary. As you said, if you don’t like something you don’t have to comment.
