Woohoo books! This month was taken over by a series that I started last month. While the books are not a complete knockout (with ratings between 2-3) I still devoured this series. I reminds me a lot of Sookie Stackhouse in that it might not be that great after the first book or so, but you just can’t stop reading.
Don’t forget to link up with us (Kittykittylala and Michelle Lately)! New this month; show us what you are #readinglately on Instagram and next month we will feature our favorites. AND we have a giveaway happening, so be sure to go down to the bottom to enter!
Home World by Bonnie Milani: I was impressed with this book. I really had no idea what to expect with it and it blew me away. It is set in the future where humans have expanded across the universe and Earth is a novelty. What this book really features though is family, keeping your word, and putting responsibility ahead of your personal goals. If you like political intrigue, relationships (friendships, family, and love), with a little science fiction, you should get this book.

c/o Netgalley
Magic Study by Maria V. Snyder: In this book, Yelena travels to her home country to learn more about her magic. She struggles with figuring out her place in this new world and tempering her “act now and figure out the repercussions later” attitude. It doesn’t work all that well. Plus there is some major family drama. And just drama in general.
Rating 3 out of 5
Fire Study by Maria V. Snyder: I didn’t really understand the purpose for a big chunk of this story. Yelena is very bitter about her place in life. But she does come around and save the day with the help of Opal.
Rating 2.5 out of 5
Storm Glass by Maria V. Snyder: Storm Glass kicks off a spinoff from the original series. Instead of focusing on Yelena, Opal the glass magician is the lead. It certainly doesn’t help the story. Opal second guesses everything she does and had a “woe as me” attitude. There are some great secondary characters throughout these series, and I think that is why I keep reading.
Rating 2 out of 5
Sea Glass by Maria V. Snyder: Instead of “woe as me,” Opal goes all “f… that” and does things without thinking and is bitter throughout. The ending is terribly rushed as well. A ridiculous amount happens in the last 2 chapters or so. Once again, the secondary characters and the world building is good, but I could do without Opal.
Rating 2 out of 5

Thanks for the giveaway! I’ve never heard of the books that you listed above but that Home World sounds like something right up my alley!
Home World is very good! Hope you enjoy it if you end up picking it up 🙂
I’m jealous of your time to read this month! During the school year I only have time to read YA fiction… #teacherproblems But my summer reading list will be packed!
Well, there are worse things to read than YA fiction 🙂
I’m generally not a science fiction fan at all, but Home World sounds like it has some potential! Thanks for hosting this link up!
You’re welcome! Home world is really good without being overtly science fiction-y.
You’ve gotten a lot of reading done! I’m working on Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert. It’s pretty interesting so far.
Oh! I want to read that one. I’m in the queue at the library, but it might be awhile yet 🙁
Home World sounds interesting! I might have to check that one out.
It is very good. Hope you are able to pick it up!
I haven’t heard of any of these! I really need to get back on track with reading.
Hope you are able to find some time for it. Good luck!
Haha I love your descriptions of the series books, I kind of want to read them because of that! You got a lot of reading done this month 🙂 Definitely going to check out Home World!
Haha, I don’t know what it is about it. It isn’t good but they suck me in. I finished the next book in the series in about 24 hours and I wanted to throw it across the room but I still have the next one coming in to the library this week!
I haven’t heard of any of these books or authors – thanks for sharing your reviews! I’m reading The Girl With All the Gifts right now and really enjoying it. Thanks, too, for hosting this giveaway!
I LOVED Girl with all the Gifts, so good!
I continued to read a series once even though I didn’t like the main character because the secondary characters were fantastic. I was even a little sad when it ended. 🙂
I’m glad I’m not the only one that does that 🙂
Must get my act together and link up next month!! I want to be a reader like you! 🙂 Great giveaway!!
You can do it 🙂 I bet you can get one done by the 29th.
Oh, I love that you read so many books…between blogging, work and kids, reading definitely takes a back seat these days!
I’ve made it a bit of a priority this year. I fell off the reading train a bit last year and definitely missed it.
