It is always fun to look back at the books I’ve read over a year. In 2019, I read 54 books. You can see my Goodreads Year in Review here. My goal was to read 60 books, so I fell short of that. But there were some great books in there, including five that were 5 star rated!

The Winter of the Witch by Katherine Arden: I loved this entire trilogy and can’t recommend it enough.
Skyward by Brandon Sanderson: Anything by Sanderson will likely get on my list. I loved this YA sci-fi book. Book 2 is out now and I can’t wait to read it.
A Memory Called Empire by Arkady Martine: This one surprised me a bit, but it was so good. Think space opera with all sorts of political intrigue.
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid: The only non sci-fi/fantasy book on the list, but its a winner. No wonder everyone raves about it.
The Cruel Stars by John Birmingham: Another space opera that has great world building and some fun characters. It gets a little dark at times, but it was definitely a favorite.
The Shadow Glass by Rin Chupeco: A fitting conclusion to a great trilogy. The magic is so fascinating in this one.
Ashlords by Scott Reintgen: This is such a fun combination of competition, rebellion, science, religion, magic and good characters.
Steel Crow Saga by Paul Krueger: Fantastic characters is what drives this one. Plus a really interesting magic system.
Priest of Lies by Peter McLean: A dark fantasy series, this isn’t a light read. But the characters are good.
The Burning White by Brent Weeks: Finished this with about an hour to spare in 2019. It is a great conclusion to a big series (5 books). Cool magic and some great characters, including ones that you love to hate.
